TLDR Hyperprolactinemia is the most common cause of secondary amenorrhea, followed by drug use.
The study conducted on 126 patients with secondary amenorrhea in Abbottabad fertility clinics found that hyperprolactinemia is the most common cause, affecting 31.7% of patients, followed by drug-induced amenorrhea at 14.3%. Among those with drug-induced amenorrhea, 38.9% used oral contraceptives, 27.8% used omeprazole, and 33.3% used other drugs. Common symptoms included headache (79.4%), fatigue (78.6%), and hair loss (65.9%). The findings highlight the importance of considering hyperprolactinemia and drug use in the clinical management of secondary amenorrhea.
