TLDR The position of the parietal whorl can predict safe donor areas for hair transplants in Korean men with male pattern baldness.
The study investigated the position of the parietal whorl (PW) in 952 Korean males with male pattern baldness (MPB) to predict a permanently safe donor area for hair transplantation. The researchers measured distances from the PW to various anatomical landmarks and found significant variations. They concluded that the position of the PW could predict the progression range of vertex alopecia, with alopecia mostly progressing within 6 cm of the PW toward the occipital side. This finding could help in efficiently utilizing the donor-recipient ratio in hair transplantation.
