TLDR A woman's high testosterone levels and related symptoms improved after ovary removal surgery.
The document is a case report of a 64-year-old postmenopausal woman who suffered from severe hyperandrogenism due to ovarian hyperthecosis, a disorder more common in postmenopausal women. This condition caused her to experience androgenetic alopecia, progressive hirsutism, and significantly high testosterone levels (483.4 ng/dL). After a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, her testosterone levels dropped to 13.4 ng/dL and there was a slight improvement in her alopecia. However, some androgenic signs persisted. The report emphasizes the need for further studies to improve early diagnosis and treatment of ovarian hyperthecosis to enhance patients' quality of life and minimize complications.
