TLDR Tongue cancer cells show more plectin-1 than non-cancer cells, but both have similar levels of trichohyalin.
The study investigated the expression of plectin-1 and trichohyalin in human tongue cancer cells. Plectin-1 was highly expressed in BICR31 tongue cancer cells but not in DOK human tongue epithelial cells, suggesting its potential role as a tumor marker in tongue cancer. Trichohyalin was expressed in both cell types, with stronger expression in BICR31 cells. The findings indicated that plectin-1 might be involved in the malignant transformation of epithelial cells, while trichohyalin's role in tongue cancer required further investigation. Co-immunoprecipitation and western blot analyses did not yield clear results regarding the interaction between plectin-1, trichohyalin, and cytokeratins.
