TLDR Platelet-Rich Plasma shows promise for treating low back pain but needs more research.
This review discusses the progress of using Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for treating Discogenic Low Back Pain (DLBP). PRP, which contains bioactive factors from platelets, shows potential therapeutic benefits for DLBP. It can be prepared and activated through various methods. Animal studies indicate significant improvements in Intervertebral Disc Degeneration (IDD), while human studies show PRP can enhance pain and functional scores, although results vary. PRP is generally considered safe, but there is variability in its classification and preparation. There is a need for more imaging studies to assess PRP's efficacy. Future research should involve larger clinical trials with objective measures, and guidelines should be developed through systematic reviews and academic conferences.
