TLDR Medical students lack awareness of plastic surgery's full scope, and more education is needed.
The study assessed the awareness of plastic surgery among medical students and found that it was largely perceived as cosmetic surgery, with little understanding of its full scope. No clinical conditions were unanimously associated with plastic surgeons by the students. The authors concluded that there was a significant lack of awareness and knowledge about plastic surgery as a specialty. To address this, they proposed implementing teaching modules, enrichment courses, value-added education, co-curricular activities, and social media engagement to improve students' understanding and interest in plastic surgery.
