Plants Use in the Care and Management of Afro-Textured Hair: A Survey of 100 Participants

    TLDR Twelve plants, especially castor oil and coconut, are beneficial for managing afro-textured hair.
    The study aimed to identify plants used by individuals with afro-textured hair to manage specific hair pathologies and to assess their effectiveness. A survey was conducted with 100 participants in Rabat over 3 months, resulting in the identification of twelve plant species used for hair care. Eleven of these plants were found to have beneficial properties for treating hair pathologies associated with afro-textured hair. The most commonly used plant was Ricinus communis (castor oil plant), followed by Cocos nucifera (coconut), Syzygium aromaticum (clove), Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera), Argania spinosa (argan), Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary), Vitellaria paradoxa (shea tree), Olea europaea (olive), Cannabis sativa (hemp), Trigonella foenum-graecum (fenugreek), and Prunus dulcis (almond).
