TLDR Anatolian native goat down-hair is similar to cashmere and can be used for high-quality textiles.
In 2019, a study analyzed the physical properties of down-hair fibers from native goats in different regions of Turkey, comparing them to cashmere fibers. The parameters studied included fiber diameter, length, scale pattern, mean scale frequency, cuticle scale height, curvature, crimp frequency, fiber tenacity, and breaking elongation properties. The results indicated that these native goat down-hair fibers, which were often wasted, had properties very similar to cashmere fibers and were suitable for spinning. The study concluded that these fibers could be used as a valuable raw material for high-quality textile products as a substitute for cashmere fiber, highlighting their economic potential in Turkey.
