Professor P. K. Thomas was a renowned neurologist and anatomist who made significant contributions to the study of peripheral nerves, particularly in the areas of diabetic neuropathy and Guillain-Barré syndrome. He was instrumental in setting up the Electron Microscopy Lab at Maida Vale Hospital and was a pioneer in using nerve biopsies for diagnosing peripheral neuropathy. Thomas was deeply involved in neurogenetics, studying hereditary demyelinating diseases and rare syndromes in Eastern Europe and Peru. He published over 300 papers and edited the Journal of Anatomy from 1990 to 2001. Despite a severe stroke in 2001, he maintained his enthusiasm for life and continued to engage in scientific and social activities until his passing in 2008.
