TLDR A 9-month-old baby had a rare, persistent ring-shaped hair loss condition.
In 2017, a case study was conducted on a 9-month old boy who had been experiencing a band-like alopecia, known as halo scalp ring, for 3 months. This rare neonatal hair disorder can lead to temporary, non-scarring alopecia or permanent hair loss. The case was unique due to the child's history of cesarean section without any perinatal complications and the presence of non-temporary, late onset, ring-shaped hair loss. The study aimed to raise awareness about this rare condition and discuss possible differential diagnoses, approaches, and counseling for infants with acquired band-like localized alopecia.
