TLDR Depigmented hair regrowth after alopecia areata can be permanent.
A case was reported of persistent depigmented hair regrowth at the site of a patch of alopecia areata. While it was known that hair could regrow without pigment from such sites, it was previously believed that this depigmentation was temporary and would not last beyond the first hair cycle.
