TLDR Different skin treatments work best for different levels of wrinkles and sun damage.
The review from 1999 discussed various dermatologic treatments for periorbital skin rejuvenation, including topical retinoic and glycolic acid preparations, chemical peels, botulinum and collagen injections, dermabrasion, and laser resurfacing. It concluded that minimal photodamage with mild rhytides responded well to topical acid therapy and superficial peels, while moderate wrinkling and photodamage required medium-depth peels, collagen injections, or erbium:YAG laser resurfacing. For deeper rhytides and extensive photodamage, CO2 laser resurfacing and botulinum injections were necessary. The study emphasized the importance of proper patient selection and assessment of aging severity to determine the most appropriate treatment.
