Physically Induced Pemphigus After Cosmetic Procedures

Richard P. Kaplan, S. R. Detwiler, Harry Saperstein
TLDR Cosmetic procedures can trigger pemphigus, an autoimmune disease.
The document reported the first two cases of pemphigus, an autoimmune disease, where lesions appeared in areas traumatized by cosmetic procedures. One patient, with a history of well-controlled pemphigus, developed lesions in surgical scars 2 months after a reduction mammoplasty and facelift. The other patient experienced an outbreak 4 weeks after a chemical peel. The study concluded that cosmetic procedures could trigger pemphigus and emphasized the need to differentiate these lesions from postoperative wound infections and other causes of poor wound healing.
