TLDR The project improved provider knowledge about PCOS but didn't significantly change diagnosis and management practices.
In 2019, a project aimed to enhance the diagnosis and management of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in women through an electronic patient record system. The project was evaluated based on four objectives, including educating providers about PCOS, assessing their knowledge before and after an educational session, developing a management plan embedded in the electronic system, and evaluating the effectiveness of this plan. The project involved 34 charts that met the inclusion criteria. The results showed a significant improvement in the knowledge level of providers after the educational session. However, there was no statistically significant difference in diagnosing and managing the metabolic status of the PCOS population at the clinic before and after the educational session. This project was an initial step in using technology to improve the diagnosis and management of PCOS, a frequently misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed and mismanaged common chronic syndrome in women.
