TLDR A 30% papaya skin extract hair tonic effectively promotes hair growth.
The study investigates the potential of ethanol extract from papaya fruit skin (Carica papaya L.) as a hair tonic to promote hair growth. The research involved formulating hair tonics with varying concentrations (10%, 20%, 30%) of the extract and testing their effectiveness on male guinea pigs. The extract was found to contain beneficial compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, and glycosides. The 30% concentration hair tonic demonstrated the highest hair growth activity, with an average growth of 16.375 mm, closely matching the positive control's average of 16.782 mm. This suggests that the 30% ethanol extract formulation is effective in promoting hair growth.
