TLDR Ro 10-9359 is an effective treatment for severe psoriasis but can cause side effects.
The study involved administering the aromatic retinoic acid derivative Ro 10-9359 orally to 25 patients with severe psoriasis, including generalized plaques, erythrodermic, and pustular types. The treatment showed excellent results in 64% of patients, particularly those with severe erythrodermic and pustular psoriasis. However, relapses sometimes occurred, necessitating a temporary return to the initial dosage. Notable side effects included cheilitis, palmoplantar scaling, skin thinning, hyperhidrosis, and diffuse hair loss. Some patients also experienced a slight increase in transaminases and alkaline phosphatases. Overall, Ro 10-9359 was considered a very useful new therapy for severe psoriasis.
