TLDR Oral feline interferon-omega improved symptoms in diabetic cats with gingivostomatitis.
This case study described the use of oral recombinant feline interferon-omega (rFeIFN-ω) in two cats with type II diabetes mellitus (DM) and concurrent feline chronic gingivostomatitis syndrome (FCGS). Both cats, previously treated with long-acting corticosteroids, developed DM likely due to these treatments. After switching to glargine insulin and starting daily oral rFeIFN-ω, the cats showed significant improvement in FCGS symptoms and pain relief within 60 days. This was the first report of rFeIFN-ω successfully managing FCGS in type II diabetic cats, where corticosteroids were contraindicated.
