TLDR Oral isotretinoin does not cause milia in acne patients.
The study investigated whether oral isotretinoin therapy at a standard dose of 0.5 mg/kg/day caused milia formation in patients with moderate-to-severe acne vulgaris. Fifty-one patients aged 18-25 years were assessed over 8 months. The results showed that none of the patients developed milia during the treatment period. The study concluded that there was no association between oral isotretinoin at the given dose and milia formation, suggesting that milia is at worst an uncommon side effect of isotretinoin therapy. Further research with higher doses of isotretinoin was recommended to explore this potential side effect more thoroughly.
