TLDR GnRH-a or orchiectomy is more effective than anti-androgens for managing hormone levels in transgender women.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of oral estradiol valerate (EV) in 103 transgender females (TGF) in India, divided into three groups: those using anti-androgens, post-orchiectomy, or GnRH-a. The study found that groups using GnRH-a or post-orchiectomy required significantly lower doses of EV and were more effective in achieving target hormone levels compared to those using anti-androgens. Specifically, 32% of the overall cohort achieved target estradiol levels, and 56% achieved target testosterone levels. Groups B and C had higher success rates in reaching these targets compared to group A. The study concluded that GnRH-a or orchiectomy is more effective than anti-androgens for hormone level management in TGF, and that spironolactone and finasteride were not effective in testosterone suppression.
