TLDR Thallium poisoning can cause serious eye problems and other severe health issues.
Thallium poisoning was associated with painful peripheral neuropathy, alopecia, mental disorders, and severe cases could lead to respiratory failure and death. Ophthalmologic features included optic neuropathy, blepharoptosis, lens opacities, and ophthalmoplegia. A 44-year-old man with sublethal thallium poisoning exhibited diminished contrast sensitivity, a tritan defect in color vision, and a relative cecocentral scotoma, eventually developing optic atrophy.
