TLDR Microneedling mildly regrows hair in androgenetic alopecia but not in other types.
In an open-label trial, microneedling was evaluated for treating hair loss in 15 patients across different alopecia types: androgenetic alopecia (AGA), fibrosing alopecia, and alopecia areata (AA). Over six monthly sessions, the AGA group showed an average decrease of 9.6 points in SALT score, indicating some hair regrowth, while no significant changes were observed in the fibrosing and AA groups. Notably, the fibrosing group experienced changes in skin appearance, such as increased pinpoint bleeding. Further analysis of scalp biopsies is pending, suggesting that microneedling may have a mild effect on hair regrowth in AGA but not in the other subgroups.
