TLDR Ultrasound shows 96% of young men with erectile dysfunction after using finasteride have abnormal penile tissue.
This document contains summaries of three studies presented at the 18th Annual Fall Scientific Meeting of SMSNA. The first study found that Natesto, a form of testosterone therapy, improved erectile function and mood within 30 days of treatment, with additional benefits in sexual desire. The second study used novel penile ultrasound techniques to assess the mechanism of erectile dysfunction in young men with persistent sexual/non-sexual symptoms after using finasteride for androgenic alopecia. The study found that 96% of men with post-finasteride syndrome and erectile dysfunction demonstrated heterogeneity in their corporal tissue at maximal pharmacologic erection, suggesting an underlying biologic pathophysiology. The third study was a randomized, controlled, three-arm study to define the utility of PDE5 inhibitors and intracavernosal injections in the radical prostatectomy population. The study found no significant differences in erectile function outcomes between the three treatment arms.
