TLDR A 3-year-old girl developed scurvy symptoms that improved with vitamin C but relapsed when supplementation stopped.
This report described a 3-year-old Swiss girl who developed scurvy symptoms, including systemic inflammation, fever, purpura, refusal to bear weight, and gingival bleeding, despite no history of poor dietary intake. Blood tests showed increased inflammatory markers and hypoalbuminemia, and MRI revealed bone marrow edema. High-dose oral vitamin C supplementation led to rapid improvement, but symptoms relapsed, including fatigue, refusal to walk, and hair loss, after stopping the treatment. Resuming supplementation normalized her condition. This case was notable as it presented scurvy symptoms not directly linked to dietary deficiency.
