TLDR No clear link found between finasteride and suicidal thoughts or actions.
A safety review conducted by Health Canada found no clear link between treatment with finasteride and suicidality in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia or male pattern hair loss. Although 170 cases of suicidal ideation and 56 cases of suicide in finasteride-treated men have been reported to the WHO database, the data were not robust enough to confirm a link between finasteride and suicidality. Health Canada will continue to monitor this issue and is encouraging healthcare professionals to report suspected finasteride-related adverse events.
