TLDR Needle shape affects the force needed for hair implants, with certain shapes reducing the effort required.
The study from 2021 investigated the impact of needle shape on the insertion force in hair implant procedures. Eight hair implant needles of the same diameter were analyzed, and their insertion force and total work were measured. The insertion force varied between 1.30 and 2.97 N, and the total work ranged from 8.15 to 10.97 mJ. The study found a moderate positive correlation between the primary bevel and acute angles with the total work. Needles with a longer point length, smaller primary bevel, and acute angle were found to decrease the total work of hair implant needles. The study also revealed that surgeons could distinguish the differences in needle insertion force among various hair implant needles, and their grading was consistent with the grading according to the total work of needle insertion.
