TLDR Nanofat injections can significantly improve hair growth in men with hair loss for up to a year.
In a study conducted in 2017, 12 male patients with androgenic alopecia were treated with a single injection session of nanofat to assess its efficacy and safety. The nanofat, derived from liposuction aspirate using the Tulip Nano™ kit, was injected into the scalp, excluding a control area. Trichoscopy and trichogram examinations were performed at baseline, and then at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months post-treatment by a blinded physician, along with recording patient satisfaction scores. Results showed an increase in hair number and thickness in treated areas compared to the control, starting at 3 months and partially persisting at 12 months. Patient satisfaction also significantly increased from the 6-month follow-up. No adverse events were reported. The study concluded that a single session of nanofat injection can provide a significant and lasting response in treating male androgenic alopecia for up to 12 months, with 6 cases showing partial persistence of results at 12 months and the other 6 cases recurring. However, this was a pilot study with a limited cohort and no control group, indicating the need for controlled studies to validate these preliminary results.
