TLDR Thicker hair resists fungal damage better, and hair color doesn't affect susceptibility.
The study investigated the impact of dermatophyte fungi on hair rupture, using 250 participants (125 males and 125 females) with varying hair qualities and some with dermatoses. It was found that hair thickness significantly influenced resistance to fungal attack, with thicker hair being more resistant. Male and adult hair showed greater resistance compared to female and children's hair. Hair color did not affect susceptibility to fungal damage. In patients with skin diseases, hair rupture was delayed in conditions like psoriasis and ichthyosis, but accelerated in microbial and mycotic eczema. The study concluded that while there were quantitative differences in hair destruction among the fungi Microsporum gypseum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum, there were no qualitative differences in their effects.
