TLDR Listening to music can help reduce anxiety before hair transplant surgery.
The study titled "Effects of Music on Preoperative Anxiety in Patients Undergoing Hair Transplantation: A Preliminary Report" conducted a randomized controlled trial on 26 patients, with a mean age of 40.8 years, undergoing hair transplantation to assess the impact of music on preoperative anxiety. The patients were divided into two groups: one that listened to music for 15 minutes during the preoperative period and a control group that did not. Anxiety was measured using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the Visual Analog Scale for Anxiety (VASA). The results showed no significant differences in STAI or VASA scores, or physical parameters between the two groups before and after the intervention. However, the STAI score of the control group significantly increased with time (P = 0.027), and a significant decrease in the VASA score was observed after the intervention for the music group (P = 0.039). The study concluded that listening to music is an effective and safe method of reducing preoperative anxiety in patients undergoing hair transplantation.
