TLDR The horse had a rare disease causing weight loss and skin issues, leading to euthanasia due to poor treatment options.
A 16-year-old paint mare was diagnosed with multisystemic eosinophilic epitheliotropic disease (MEED), presenting symptoms such as chronic weight loss, hair loss, and neurological issues. Despite treatment efforts, the condition deteriorated, resulting in euthanasia. Necropsy confirmed extensive eosinophilic infiltration across multiple organs, aligning with MEED's characteristics. This rare disease in horses is marked by chronic weight loss and skin abnormalities, with a poor prognosis and limited treatment efficacy.
