TLDR Monilethrix is a rare genetic hair disorder with no cure, but low-dose oral minoxidil may help.
Monilethrix was described as a rare hereditary hair shaft disorder with high penetrance and variable expressivity. The case report focused on a Danish family with different phenotypical presentations. Diagnosis was confirmed through dermatoscopy, microscopy, and gene sequence analysis. Although no cure existed, a single case report indicated promising results using low-dose oral minoxidil. The best preventive measure was reducing hair dressing trauma to minimize weathering.
