TLDR Diagnosing and treating monilethrix is challenging when it occurs with other hair disorders.
This case report discusses a 38-year-old woman with both monilethrix, a genetic hair shaft disorder, and androgenetic alopecia, a common form of hair loss. The coexistence of these conditions complicates diagnosis and management, as evidenced by the patient's lifelong occipital hair fragility and recent frontal scalp thinning. Trichoscopy showed hair shaft variability, including miniaturized hairs with features of both conditions. The report emphasizes the challenges in diagnosing and treating monilethrix when it occurs alongside other hair disorders.
