TLDR The SBN system effectively assesses alopecia areata severity and predicts its course.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of the standardized SALT scale in determining the severity of alopecia areata (AA) in 40 patients, comprising 15 men and 25 women with an average age of 29.4 years. The study found that the severity of AA is not only determined by the size and number of lesions on the scalp but also by hair loss on the eyebrows and eyelashes and the presence of dystrophic nail plates. The SBN system was found to effectively evaluate and describe the clinical variant of AA, aiding in clinical management and predicting the disease course. Notably, 54.5% of patients with more than 25% scalp hair loss experienced more than two relapses, and 25% of patients showed a combination of body hair loss and nail dystrophy.
