Misoprostol, a prostaglandin E1 analog, was found to have diverse therapeutic applications beyond its known gastrointestinal protective and uterotonic activities. It played a role in regulating immunologic responses, protecting against various injuries and diseases, and improving nutrient absorption in conditions like cystic fibrosis. Misoprostol showed potential in treating hepatotoxicity, asthma, cardiovascular and renal conditions, periodontal disease, and ocular issues such as glaucoma. It also enhanced the effects of certain anti-inflammatory drugs and was used in pain management. Notably, it reduced chemotherapy-induced hair loss and aided recovery from burn injuries, demonstrating its wide-ranging medical benefits.
