TLDR Oral minoxidil for hair loss caused mild side effects in some men, but most continued treatment.
A retrospective review of 41 adult men aged 20-55 years, who were treated with oral minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia, reported adverse effects in seven cases. Six men, aged 23-46, and one man of unspecified age experienced side effects such as hypertrichosis in five men, pedal oedema in one man, and hair shedding in another man. These side effects were considered mild and well-tolerated. The man with pedal oedema discontinued the minoxidil treatment, while the others continued. The duration of treatment at the time of the report was 6-8 months, but the outcomes after this period were not stated. The adverse effects were noted to be hypertrichosis, lower limb edema, and shedding in one patient each.
