TLDR New scalp surgery technique results in thinner, less visible scars.
In 2007, Patrick Frechet, MD, introduced a new surgical technique for scalp surgery that aimed to minimize visible scarring. The study involved over 100 cases and focused on reducing tension on the wound by not sectioning the galea aponeurotica and using a hypodermic incision. The technique also involved deepithelialization of the lower lip of the wound and precise suturing to maintain a wound width of 10 mm or less. Results showed that the technique led to thinner scars compared to conventional methods, with most cases achieving minimal visible scarring. The technique was found to be particularly effective for looser scalps and in avoiding wider scars in areas like under the nucchal ridge. However, its effectiveness may be limited for large hair transplant sessions or repeat procedures due to increased tension. Further study was suggested to confirm the findings.
