TLDR Tattooing improves appearance of scalp alopecia and scars.
This article discusses the use of micropigmentation, or tattooing, as a way to improve the appearance of scalp alopecia and scars in Korean patients. The author notes that while the study focuses on Korean patients, the techniques of tattooing have many commonalities applicable across the lines of race and ethnicity. The author offers clinical preferences, such as using black ink warmed with an orange-based pigment to minimize the bluish tint, and favoring tiny strokes with the tattoo needle when tattooing scalp alopecia. The author also agrees with the use of iron oxide-based pigments and notes that cicatricial tissue is inherently unpredictable when these procedures are performed. Overall, the author commends the innovation and excellent presentation of this method and hopes that it will generate continued research and engagement within the realm of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
