TLDR TSC2 is crucial for proper hair follicle development and patterning.
The study investigated the role of the TSC2 gene in hair follicle development by using mice with a mesenchymal-specific deletion of Tsc2. The Tsc2cKO mice exhibited a denser and ribbed pattern of ventral fur, abnormally long hairs on dorsal paws, and altered frequencies of hair types. The spacing between hair follicles was significantly reduced, and hair shaft diameter was greater compared to controls. Additionally, Tsc2cKO mice showed immediate and diffuse hair regrowth when shaved, indicating continuous anagen signals. These findings identified TSC2 as a crucial regulator of hair follicle morphogenesis and patterning.
