TLDR Menopause significantly affects skin health and conditions.
This review examined the impact of menopause on the skin, highlighting that the hypo-oestrogenic state during menopause affected skin structure and function. The literature review found that oestrogen played a role in transepidermal water loss and reduced dermal collagen. Menopause was associated with several common dermatoses, such as xerosis, pruritus, hidradenitis suppurativa, and psoriasis. The study concluded that menopause significantly impacted skin and dermatological conditions, and further research was needed to understand the mechanisms and explore therapeutic options.
