TLDR Certain medications like antipsychotics and some antidepressants increase the risk of falls in older patients.
This retrospective case-control study at a Veterans Affairs Medical Center examined medications linked to inpatient falls among patients aged 65 and older. The study found that antipsychotics, non-sedating antidepressants, and finasteride were significantly associated with an increased risk of falls. Additionally, a history of falls and urinary incontinence were identified as comorbidities with a higher association with falls. The study concludes that these medications increase the risk of inpatient falls, and it calls for further research with larger and more diverse populations to confirm these findings.
