TLDR Using a mechanical pencil to hold a needle makes hair transplant surgery easier and faster.
The paper discusses a novel technique for slit creation during hair restoration surgeries. The traditional method using needles or blades can strain the surgeon, increase surgery duration, and make angulation of the slit difficult. The authors propose a solution by using an autoclaved mechanical lead pencil as a holder for the hypodermic/Nokor needle. The needle, without its hub, is inserted inside the mechanical pencil, and its diameter is adjusted with micropore tape. The depth of the needle can be changed as needed with the use of the mechanical pencil. This method offers enhanced ergonomics, allowing the surgeon to make slits with minimal effort and reducing the length of the procedure.
