TLDR A large scalp tumor was removed from an elderly woman, who was later diagnosed with schizophrenia.
This case report describes a 75-year-old female with a massive pilomatrixoma of the scalp, severe anemia, and schizophrenia. The tumor, measuring 21 cm in transverse axis, caused chronic blood loss and nutritional deficiencies, leading to severe anemia. The patient was treated with blood transfusions, iron, and folate supplements, followed by surgical excision of the tumor. Post-surgery, she was managed for schizophrenia with paliperidone. The case highlights the complexity of managing a giant pilomatrixoma with significant hemodynamic impact and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for optimal patient outcomes.
