TLDR Male pattern hair loss affects about one-third of men aged 18-49 years in the United States.
Male pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, is a common condition affecting about one-third of men aged 18-49 years. However, previous studies on the prevalence of this condition have mainly focused on clinical populations, which may limit the generalizability of the findings. To address this, a community-based study was conducted in Dayton, Ohio, involving 267 men aged 18-49 years. The participants were selected regardless of their hair pattern, except for those who reported complete baldness. The study aimed to gain a better understanding of the distribution of different patterns of male pattern hair loss and its impact on men's quality of life.
