TLDR Bimatoprost solution is effective and safe for long-term use in treating eyelash thinning.
In a multicenter, double-masked, randomized, parallel-group study, the long-term safety and efficacy of bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% were evaluated over two 6-month treatment periods for patients with idiopathic or chemotherapy-induced eyelash hypotrichosis. The study met its primary efficacy endpoint at month 4, with a 40.2% responder rate for idiopathic hypotrichosis patients using bimatoprost compared to 6.8% for the vehicle, and a 37.5% responder rate for post-chemotherapy patients using bimatoprost versus 18.2% for the vehicle. By month 6, the efficacy was maintained or enhanced, and effects lasted approximately 2 months after treatment cessation but significantly decreased after 4-6 months in idiopathic hypotrichosis patients. No serious drug-related adverse events were reported, indicating that daily treatment with bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% for 1 year is effective and well-tolerated for these conditions.

The conversation discusses hair loss treatments beyond the commonly known three, focusing on separating effective treatments from myths. Dutasteride and low-dose oral Minoxidil are mentioned as having clinical evidence for increasing hair counts, but with potential side effects.

community Why not Travopost? More effective than min, and stackable.

      in Research/Science  18 upvotes 1 year ago
Travoprost may be more effective than minoxidil for hair growth and can be used alongside it, but its effectiveness is debated due to inconsistent dosing results. Travoprost is expensive and not widely used, with alternatives like latanoprost and bimatoprost being more accessible.

community DLQ01: A Better "Minoxidil" PGF2a synthetic analogue.

      in Research/Science  3 upvotes 1 year ago
DLQ01, a prostaglandin F2α analog, shows promise for hair growth by directly stimulating PGE2/PGF receptors without needing conversion, and can be combined with minoxidil and retinoids like tretinoin for enhanced effectiveness. Minoxidil's efficacy may be reduced by COX-1 inhibitors, but using prostaglandin analogs like Latanoprost or Bimatoprost can help maintain its effectiveness.
