TLDR Most hospitalized COVID-19 patients had long-term symptoms like fatigue and hair loss, with women and those sicker during hospitalization at higher risk.
In a multicenter observational study of 1,142 previously hospitalized COVID-19 patients from Madrid, Spain, it was found that 80% experienced long-term post-COVID symptoms seven months after discharge, with fatigue (60.8%), hair loss (26.3%), and dyspnea (23.5%) being the most common. The study identified that women, patients with longer hospital stays, those with more comorbidities, and those with a higher number of symptoms at hospital admission were at increased risk for a greater number of long-term post-COVID symptoms. This suggests the need for a multidisciplinary treatment approach to address the persistent and varied post-COVID symptoms.
