TLDR Long COVID has severely affected a couple's health, finances, and social life.
Karlie, a 56-year-old former HR manager, has experienced long COVID symptoms for four years following her COVID-19 infection in July 2020. Her pre-existing health conditions included severe asthma, psoriatic arthritis, and a history of surgeries. After contracting COVID-19, she was hospitalized for five weeks and developed numerous long-term symptoms, including chronic fatigue, hair loss, and fibromyalgia. Both she and her husband, who also suffers from long COVID, have faced significant lifestyle changes, including early retirement, a 40% income reduction, and moving to a low-maintenance home. They have withdrawn from social activities and community involvement due to their health issues. Despite these challenges, they have contributed to long COVID research and advocacy, highlighting the broader societal impact of the condition.
