TLDR Hair diameter diversity is a key sign for diagnosing and managing male pattern baldness.
The document reports on a study involving 21 men aged 19 to 51 with androgenetic alopecia, which developed a new clinical scoring method based on hair diameter diversity, a sign of follicle miniaturization. The study found a significant correlation between clinical macroscopic scoring for hair density, the Hamilton classification, and histological hair density. Hair diameter diversity was identified as the most accurate clinical parameter for assessing follicle miniaturization, with the anagen-telogen ratio decreasing alongside clinical hair density score. The study concluded that hair diameter diversity is a crucial and reliable clinical sign for diagnosing and managing androgenetic alopecia, suggesting it as a new tool for hair disorder assessment. Further research is needed to confirm these findings in individuals without androgenetic alopecia. The study was supported by L'Oréal Research.
