TLDR Videodermoscopy is a helpful, non-invasive tool for accurately diagnosing hair and scalp disorders.
Videodermoscopy was found to be a valuable tool in diagnosing scalp and hair disorders, offering improved clinical and diagnostic accuracy over traditional methods, which varied in sensitivity and invasiveness. It was particularly useful in differentiating conditions like alopecia areata, where yellow dots were observed in 95% of cases, from other disorders such as androgenetic alopecia, trichotillomania, and telogen effluvium. This non-invasive method allowed for accurate diagnosis without the need for biopsies, which could be traumatic, especially for children. Despite its benefits, further prospective studies were needed to validate the effectiveness of dermoscopic features.
