Low Level Laser Treatment for Patterned Hair Loss: A Systematic Review

Omeed Memar, Benjamin Caughlin, Hamid R. Djalilian
TLDR Low-level laser therapy may help hair growth, but more research is needed.
The systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for androgenic alopecia and female pattern hair loss, finding that LLLT, especially in the red spectrum, was effective in promoting hair growth in both men and women. However, the studies reviewed were generally of low power, and larger, more robust studies were needed to confirm these findings. While LLLT devices were FDA-approved and showed some efficacy, the evidence quality was moderate to low, and no head-to-head comparisons of different LLLT devices had been conducted. Overall, LLLT was considered a promising treatment, but further research was necessary to strengthen the evidence base.
