Low Level Laser Treatment for Patterned Hair Loss: A Systematic Review

Omeed Memar, Benjamin Caughlin, Hamid R. Djalilian
TLDR Low-level laser therapy may help hair growth, but more research is needed.
The systematic review investigated the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for androgenic and female pattern hair loss. The review found that LLLT, which uses red or near-infrared light, showed promising results in promoting hair growth. However, the authors noted that larger case-controlled studies were needed to confirm these findings. The review highlighted the mechanism of LLLT, which involves enhancing mitochondrial activity and triggering growth pathways like Wnt/beta-catenin, potentially leading to increased hair growth. Despite the positive indications, the need for more robust studies was emphasized to substantiate the efficacy of LLLT in treating patterned hair loss.
