TLDR Garg and Garg created an affordable, easy-to-use training program for hair restoration surgery using everyday items, which can teach a technician the basics in 3-4 weeks with two hours of daily practice.
In 2017, Anil Kumar Garg and Seema Garg developed a cost-effective and user-friendly training module for hair restoration surgery, specifically focusing on the strip method of hair follicle harvesting and implantation. The module utilized common materials like paper, pencil, plant leaf, foam, thread, and goat skin for practice. The training was divided into multiple steps, starting with microsurgery position training and ending with practicing all steps on goat skin. The authors suggested that with two hours of training per day for 3-4 weeks, a technician could gain basic knowledge of the hair transplant procedure, follicle care, and the importance of graft hydration, ischaemia, and temperature control. The module emphasized the delicacy of the hair follicle and the importance of teamwork in hair transplantation. The authors highlighted the need for such a module due to the limited time available for teaching and learning hair transplant surgery during plastic surgery training and the risk of losing limited permanent donor hair follicles when learning directly on patients.
