TLDR The author now supports the JCCP's efforts to improve non-surgical aesthetic practices after initial skepticism.
The article discusses the evolution of the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) and the author's changing perspective on the council. Initially, the JCCP faced significant opposition from aesthetic practitioners, including the author, due to concerns about its formation and the inclusion of non-healthcare professionals. The council was created following a recommendation from Health Education England in 2015 to establish standards for non-surgical aesthetic practices. Despite early resistance, the JCCP has grown and developed, bringing on board respected figures with extensive experience in patient safety, health, and education. The council has worked to establish robust standards and qualification frameworks, although the voluntary nature of the register remains a challenge. The author acknowledges that while the JCCP is not perfect, it has made significant strides and is the most likely body to become the regulator for non-surgical aesthetics. The author, who was initially skeptical, now supports the JCCP and encourages others to engage with the council to help improve the industry.
